Afghanistan Takes Control

It’s really something seeing the people of Afghanistan take control of their lives and exercising one of the most basic freedoms of any democratic society:  voting.  Despite calls for boycotts and acts of violence from the Taliban bastards, the empowered citizens voted with gusto, especially women who will have 68 seats in the national assembly.  It will be interesting to see how this plays out over time.  Once people get a taste of freedom it’s much harder for terrorists like the Taliban to ever get as strong a foothold.  If only more Muslim countries could understand this.

What Do Polls Tell Us

In my opinion, polls tell us little to nothing about what people will do once they step into the election booth.  However, it is interesting to see some of the polling numbers currently cropping up these days.  In this poll, conducted by the Pew Research Center for the People & the Press, we see an across the board dip for Republicans in all age groups.  That can’t be good.  Of course, in the next question people are asked if they would like to see their congressional representative re-elected and more than half say yes.  Contrary people!

As if we didn’t see this coming from a mile away!  Should anyone really be shocked these two are calling it quits?  Oh, well, all those women I work with who think Kenny’s "all that" will be happy he’s a single man once again.

NASA To Unveil $100 Billion Plan To Go Back To The Moon…

From the Bad Timing File comes this little tidbit from NASA.  As the article correctly points out, NASA has chosen the wrong time to unveil a plan that will cost $100 billion!  Moreover, is it really necessary for us to go back to moon?  I’m all for space exploration, but in a time when our government has over-extended the nation fighting a war in Iraq, continuing to assist in Afghanistan, and now hurricane Katrina where the hell are we going to get another $100 billion?!  Not to mention, just what is so important about us going back to the moon?  What secrets does it still hold?  Instead of going back to the moon it seems to me NASA would be better off getting back into R&D.  Design that next phase of the shuttle program.  Where’s a Zefram Cochrane when you need him.
