This whole episode is just pathetic; on the part of Oprah and the people at Hermes. I like Oprah and all, but just why the hell is she so important that she, and she alone, should be allowed to enter a store closed for a private gathering? Just because she’s Oprah Winfrey? Please! Moreover, just how many of Oprah’s viewers would actually be able to shop at a store like Hermes? I think Oprah needs to "remember her spirit" and get over herself.

I often find myself wondering if something like this matters. In my opinion, it doesn’t. President Bush could be the crappiest president in the last 50 years, and I believe that he is, but Republicans are so willing to vote for someone simply for what party he or she says they are from and if they utter religous sayings. President Bush could run for office tomorrow and still probably win. That’s what’s wrong with our election system: people don’t vote for the right person, they vote the person based on his party, his stance on abortion, or his stance on gays. And so we get someone like Bush. Shame on us all.
You know, as much as it pains me to give Rupert Murdoch money by being a subscriber to DirecTV, I just flat out love my TIVO-enabled DVR. When there are several shows on the same night, I just love the fact that I can watch one show while another one is taping. I know, it’s kind of sad, but it doesn’t take much for me to be happy. Last night was a great example of why I’m a bitch for TIVO.
7:00 – 8:00 pm (CDT): It’s great to have a funny show like King of Queens back on Monday nights. I actually haven’t been able to watch it for the last two years because it was moved to Wednesday nights, but the show certainly hasn’t lost any of its humor. Some might consider it the bastard stepchild of Everybody Loves Raymond, but the show is extremely funny in its own way. Jerry Stiller alone is well worth the time to watch. How I Met Your Mother followed King, but I didn’t think it was all that funny. Sure it had some moments and maybe it will get better, but I wasn’t all that impressed. Being securely between King and Two and a Half Men is certainly a good thing, but it will be interesting to see if it can live up to the potential. Thanks to TIVO I also got to check out NBC’s newest genre show, Surface, and I have to say it’s rather good. It shows some definite potential and they did a great job of teasing us with these “sea monsters.†I will definitely continue to record it.
8:00 – 9:00 pm: With Raymond gone, CBS is lucky to have such a funny show like Two and a Half Men to step up. Last night proved why this show has been so successful in its own right, outside the shadow of Raymond. It’s hard to buy Charlie Sheen and Jon Cryer as brothers, but that’s part of what makes this show so damn funny: they are perfect foils for each other. Throw in Angus T. Jones with his perfect comedic timing and it was laughs all around last night. The second new show of the night, Out of Practice, was a funny surprise for the night. Who knew Stockard Channing could be so hilarious? Normally she’s so dour and boring on The West Wing, but then she’s rarely given enough to do to shine like she did on Practice. Even better was the return of The Fonz, Henry Winkler, to weekly television. In fact, the entire cast seemed to mesh so well together. This show certainly has potential.
9:00 pm – 10:00 pm: I have never been a fan of CSI: Miami, but the rest of the family is so I endure the pomposity of David Caruso’s Horatio Caine for the sake of a quiet house. Last night’s episode was annoying mostly for the slow-motion scenes that seemed to run rampant throughout; however, watching Emily Procter slow-motion walk in tight pants is always a nice sight. Medium is the show I like; although last night’s episode was poorly written in comparison to the first season. It dragged on far too long and in too many ways made no sense. I do think the writers are taking an interesting road with the affect Allison Dubois’ abilities are having on her family life. One of the great things about this show is that the writers do everything in their power to ground it in reality as much as possible considering the premise. Showing the affect this woman’s psychic abilities would have on her husband and children is a great way to do that.
