NBC’s crappy new show, Inconceivable, seems to be tanking in the ratings.  No one should be shocked by this.  The show is utterly stupid, badly written, and very badly acted.  Alfre Woodard was lucky enough to get killed last night so she can be on Desperate Housewives and Ming-Na is too accomplished an actor to be doing something this bad, and don’t get me started on how just how bad Angie Harmon is — she takes ball-busting, overbearing, obnoxious bitch on wheels to new heights with her character.  You may ask, "But why do you watch this show?"  Because there’s nothing else on.  I dislike the stupidly-titled Numb3rs and have no desire to watch another damned news magazine.  I guess I’ll just be turning the TV off; at least until NBC gets tired of attracting negligible viewers and puts something else on.  Hell, Law and Order: Trial by Jury drew twice as many viewers as this drivel and NBC canceled that show.

Sometimes Words Hurt

I often enjoy reading Matthew Yglesias, both on his own blog and on Tapped, but I cannot agree with his defense of Bill Bennett’s stupidity.  As many of us know, Bennett recently stated that the crime rate could be lowered if we would just “abort all the black babies.”  Yglesias’ defense seems to revolve around the fact that, yes, you could lower the crime rate if you aborted all the black babies; so, in a sense, Bennett was stating a hard, if hurtful, truth.  Well, I’m sorry, but that’s just a load of horseshit.  Even if it is true that aborting all the black babies in the US would lower the crime rate, to suggest something like this is little more than genocide – even if it’s a one-off statement said in stupid haste, it’s wrong and indefensible. What’s next, genetically testing all of our children so we can abort the ones who will have qualities we don’t like?  My opinion of Yglesias, not that it really matters, has been greatly lowered.
