Annoying Show Openers
There is a very annoying trend in television shows these days: the opening montage. You know what I’m talking about. The program opens with an explanation of the show’s premise in which we learn the reason behind the show and the motivations of the characters. Battlestar Galactica is a prime example of this. The show opens each week with this montage explaining how the cylons were created by humans, they turned against, there a many copies, and – grab a loved one – THEY HAVE A PLAN! We already know this. Why do we need to be reminded each and every week, especially well into the second season? Then we move onto “Previously on Battlestar Galactica….†Then we get into a brief, and I mean brief, show opener and then it’s right into the opening credits. Wasted time! I’m not one of those who likes those shows that have no opening theme or credits, such as Lost. I’ve always had a soft spot for well-produced TV themes, and it’s also a way to get to know the actors in the show, especially one with a large cast, but I hate these opening explanation montages with a passion.
