I find myself wondering why major retailers like Wal-Mart and Target are either refusing to carry the so-called "morning after" pill or allowing pharmacists to refuse filling a prescription based on religious beliefs. Why embrace this Conservative and divisive political issue. Do they really think Conservative groups could carry out a boycott of their stores? Come one! They might call for it, but many of their supporters would just ignore it I think. In many small towns, Wal-Mart has driven away local competition, so it’s really the only choice people have for low-cost shopping. Target is no different. There really is no need for shameful pandering like this.
Is Rudy Giuliani really considered "America’s Mayor" anymore? Haven’t people pretty much grown tired of his endless use of September 11 for personal gain? While I’m sure he remains popular, I doubt he’s so popular he could ride in to the White House on September 11 alone — at least I hope not.
Are there really no names left for storms? We have a huge planet filled with different names, yet we have to start using the Greek alphabet? I’m not asking for Hurricane Sheneneh, although that might be kind of fun, but I think we can do better than Alpha, Beta, and Gamma.
I’m not sure what to make of the Washington Post Ombudsman’s (or is it Ombudsperson since it’s a she?) take-down of Bob Woodward. She says all the right things, but is she only making sure the Post has an out if this blows up? Who knows, but I do think she’s appropriate in her criticisms.

Does attacking a medaled war veteran work? Sometime, unfortunately, it does. That doesn’t mean it works ever time, and I think Americans are really getting tired of it. The impugning of a person’s patriotism simply because they disagree you isn’t going fly, and these pathetic attempts by Republicans to destroy a man who received two Purple Hearts and a Bronze Medal simply doesn’t fly. It says something that Republicans are incapable of having an intelligent, professional, and mature debate with Iraq war critics. The reason, of course, is they have no real response to the debacle that Iraq has become. Instead, they choose to destroy their critics and deflect attention away from their mistakes. As I said, pathetic.
