$25 Million
Is Katie Couric really worth $25 million? I just don’t see it and I really don’t think she’ll be the panacea CBS is looking for.

While switching through the channel I came across an Access Hollywood report on aggressive photographers and I actually found myself feeling sympathy for actors like Angelina Jolie and Jennifer Lopez. Watching the "photographers" physically attack these people in order to get a picture is just unreal to me. It just seems wrong. Granted, as celebrities they give up some of their privacy, but this is just out of line, at least to me. They can’t even spend private time with their children without someone sneaking on to their property or up to their hotel rooms to get a picture. It says something about our culture and its disgusting need for celebrity news that we’ve bred such a group of people who put getting a picture above even common decency.
You know, the more I read about the whole Ford capitulation to right wing fanatics, the more I become disgusted by it. It’s nice to see a major corporation like Wells Fargo not only stand by its support of diversity and freedom, but basically tell the fanatics, "Go to hell." Of course, it’s not surprising that a company based in San Francisco donated funds to GLAAD. Still, this is a courageous stand for a corporation with businesses and offices across the United States — even in the red parts of the country.
Well, if you’re a fan of Knight Rider, you can now download it from iTunes. The great thing about something like this is that shows not seen on major networks — Battlestar Galactica and Monk for example — will now have access to a wider audience, which could bring more viewers to the show. Of course, since Desperate Housewives and Lost became available on iTunes their ratings have ticked down a bit.
That Molly Ivins. She’s a real pip sometimes.

Hillary Clinton, on many levels, has turned out to be quite a disappointment since her husband left office. As both a Senator and a Democrat Clinton has shown a disgusting need to walk the middle line even when that middle line is obviously a bad choice. Now, she’s actually sponsoring a stupid piece of legislation to criminalize desecration of the American flag, but wait…she still opposes a constitutional ban on "flag attacks." This woman has turned out to be even more politically calculating than her husband. She wants to criminalize flag desecration, but doesn’t want to make it a constitutional ban! Leave off the fact there’s a real First Amendment issue here, but why must we imbue a piece of cloth manufactured in a foreign country with so much power? Isn’t what the flag stands for more important than the flag itself. I don’t like to see flag burning either, but I’ll be damned if I would support a law to make it illegal. Wake up, Hil, there are more important things in need of fixing in this country.
Of course, Clinton is only doing this to build up her centrist credibility with voters, but if she thinks she’ll draw Conservative voters because of this she sadly mistaken. She doesn’t deserve to be the first woman president if this is the kind of legislation she’ll create.
