Golden Globes
If you watch award shows, and outside of the Oscars and Emmys I rarely do, the Golden Globes are by far the most fun to watch. Sometimes the celebrities will have too much to drink and who knows what they will say! Well the nominations are out and I have to say some films are interesting in that they are films seen by very few people. Philip Seymour Hoffman deserves not only a Golden Globe, but also an Oscar for his portrayal of Truman Capote — it was eerily good. I found it odd the only nomination Munich got was for Best Director.
In the television drama category all the nominees are worthy of winning. I would like to see Grey’s Anatomy or Rome take the trophy — both are original, well-acted, and well-written dramas. Same goes for the acting categories. Hugh Laurie and Matthew Fox are most deserving in the actor category and I think Polly Walker was outstanding as Attia on Rome. The comedy category is a little difficult for me to judge since the only shows I watch are Desperate Housewives — which doesn’t belong in this category — and Entourage. I would love to Entourage take the trophy — it’s a very under-rated (in more ways than one) show.
In the miniseries/movie category I’ve not seen Viva Blackpool so I can’t comment, but all the others are well-done movies. For me, it would be a hard choice between Into the West and Lackawanna Blues (for which S. Epatha Merkerson one an Emmy).
