I know, I know, I’m such a liberal bastard!  Get over it, move on.

The Man Behind the Blog

This article by The Washington Monthly on Markos Moulitsas, the man behind Daily Kos, is quite interesting in a behind-the-scenes kind of way.  The writer doesn’t pull any punches.  He writes not only about Moulitsas’ success, but also about the failures in an honest manner.  I found it quite interesting.  It does, however, reinforce an opinion I’ve always had:  I’m not sure I would like this man (which, of course, means nada).  Daily Kos is not always my cup of tea, but it’s often a great and informative read.  It’s certainly one of the few blogs I read on a daily basis.

The Best Choice?

I’m no fan of football, so it makes no difference to me where Monday Night Football airs, but I wonder if this was the best business decision for the NFL.  On a major network like ABC, Monday Night Football has drawn tens of millions of viewers.  Will they get that on ESPN?  I doubt it, even for something as popular as MNF (although, that popularity has waned in the last few years).  Cable never comes close to the viewership of hit shows like MNF — never.  That’s also what makes this interesting:  can ESPN draw close to what ABC did?  There are certainly very good shows on cable:  Nip/Tuck, Battlestar Galactica, Monk, The 4400.  The thing is, the most viewers any of these shows has drawn on a regular basis is 6 million — that may be a hit on the WB or UPN, but television shows with double that number have been canceled on the 4 major networks.  Of course, the real winner in this deal is ESPN.  They are going to see a major increase in viewership.  A billion dollars is small price to pay.
