Boycott the White House

Let me first say this:  I think it was in poor taste for The Family Pride Coalition and other gay family-oriented groups to turn the White House egg roll into a political event.  That being said, I see no problem with this gay families attending the egg roll.  Families are families and no matter what you may think of the parents, children should not be prevented from engaging in and enjoying activities simply because their parents happen to be gay.  That, to me, is the most un-Christian of attitudes.  The Conservative religious groups protesting this decision are right:  the events is for the children.  They should try to remember this when bring out their hate-filled signs this April.

Embracing the Critics

I’ve been out of town for awhile so I haven’t paid much attention to the brouhaha created when WaPo’s ombudsman made some "inartfully worded" comments about Jack Abramoff and Democrats, which started a stream of hateful and vicious comments on WaPo’s blog, prompting the company to turn off comments.  Of course, people immediately jump to the conclusion — and it’s easy to do — that this was a plot by WaPo to silence critics of their paper, but after reading this Q&A between Jay Rosen and Jim Brady of Washingtonpost.com I can see their side of the issue.  It’s their site and while I think they need to have a thicker skin, I also believe they have the right to remove any comment that is a vicious outright attack on their reporters.  There is no reason for this.  It’s one thing to disagree with the viewpoint of a journalist and/or article, but it’s another to engage in the kind immature, rude, hateful and unprofessional name-calling that seems to run so rampant on political blogs.  Hell, I’ve been known to call a name or two myself, but I don’t spend each and every day tossing out profanity.  Grow up.  When you act like that you’re acting no better than the likes of Ann Coulter and Rush Limbaugh, and they should not be our role models.

Endorsement From Hell

No matter what my opinion may be of President Bush’s fight against terrorism, I seriously doubt I could welcome an endorsement from this son of a bitch.
