Strange Bedfellows

When Iran wants to build nuclear facilities they’re our enemy; when Iran wants to block gay rights groups from having a voice at the UN they’re our friend.  Too disgusting to even comment on.

20 Years Later

It’s hard to believe it’s been 20 years since the Challenger space shuttle was destroyed — three years since Columbia, 39 years since Apollo 1 (I was six months in the womb during that disaster).  I can remember sitting in my dorm room watching television as it began to air the Challenger explosion over and over and over again.  It was my freshmen year, my roommates and I skipped the entire day of classes and sat riveted in front of the cheap little 13-inch television we had.  I can remember even now how sick I was of seeing all the news program replay the explosion again and again.  How I wished they would show some respect for the dead.  Of course, it’s even worse now.

New Orleans To Go Vanilla

Here’s a sad fact about the issue of blacks not returning to New Orleans:  the white population would love nothing better.  You may think I’m an asshole or a race-batter for saying that, but I work with several people who have many family and friends who’ve lived in New Orleans for most of their lives, and they are quite honest about their happiness at this prospect.  They like to explain it away by first saying their not racist, but according to their enlightened view all those black people are nothing but welfare parasites, they did this to themselves, they could have gotten out of New Orleans, blah, blah, blah.   No matter how they explain it away, it’s racist and its disgusting that anyone would find pleasure in the literal destruction of someone else’s life simply because of their skin color.  I’ll be honest, I have no doubt there is some truth in the terrible things they say, but is that true of every African American who lives in New Orleans?  If these people had shown a little more compassion, had been willing to give a helping hand when it was needed, had not turned their backs on these people long ago then maybe the situation might not have become so bad.  There’s enough blame on both sides of this issue.  Either way, it’s still fucking pathetic they would be glad of the terrible things these people endured with the hurricane.

A Rough Start

Things are just not getting off to a good start with the idea of a new Hamas-controlled government in the Palestinian territories.  This decision by the Palestinian people may be the biggest mistake they ever made.  This, to me, has always been the most frightening aspect of Democracy in Muslim countries.  Does that make me a hypocrite, maybe, but it’s still frightening.  It’s just that it seems whenever Muslims are given a chance to freely choose their government, they so often choose the most radical element among their people.

UPDATE:  I can understand how the Palestinian people had grown tired of the corruption and weakness of Fatah, but do they really believe Hamas will be that much better?  I don’t understand how they can.

Inhaled Insulin

I’m a Type 2 diabetic who’s been able to control his diabetes with diet, exercise, and a one-a-day pill.  There were many factors that pushed me to lose weight and get my blood sugar under control, but a huge deciding factor was the fact that I hate needles and wasn’t looking forwarding to pricking my finger each day or giving myself shots.  I don’t have to worry about right now, but it’s good to know that I may not have to worry about the needles anymore.  That is, as long as I don’t develop any issues with my lungs, then it’s needles once again!

Gay Cowboys Are Ruining America!

I guess Washington state didn’t get the memo stating America is a Christian nation and we’re supposed to hate gays.

This law doesn’t endorse or allow gay marriage, but it’s a step in the right direction that should have happened a long time ago.  Even if you don’t support gay marriage, discrimination of any kind should never be codified into our laws.
