Damn That Free Press

What the hell has happened to Chris Matthews? I mean really! The man has been on a tirade recently comparing war protesters to Osama bin Laden, he’s aired disgusting anti-gay jokes, he’s become a mouthpiece for Tom DeLay, and now he flat out accuses "liberals and gays" of burning down churches in Alabama! What the fuck!
I was never a great fan of Matthews’ show, but tuned in occasionally when he had a guest I was interested in watching. Matthews, of course, came to fame when he jumped on the Clinton bashing bandwagon during the Lewinsky scandal. After that, he kind of tamed down and was, on occasion, interesting to watch. It’s been a couple of years since I last saw his show; in fact, I don’t watch any of these shows anymore. Liberal or conservative, they are all just bad. However, it’s been impossible not to hear of Matthews’ all-out attack on anyone of a liberal or progressive persuasion these days, and his attacks on gays have been quite disturbing. It’s like he’s been brainwashed, or suffering from multiple personality disorder. I ask again, what the hell happened? Can this all be a ratings ploy? MSNBC’s talk shows have been veering to the right for several years now (in fact, Keith Olbermann is the only one of their weeknight talk shows that can even be considered moderately left), but not even Joe Scarborough is out there saying stupid things like this.
Here’s another question. What is happening to NBC News? Brian Williams is not so bad as nightly news anchors go, but from the Today show to Meet the Press to Hardball, NBC News has been on the attack against Democrats. Tim Russert lobs softballs questions to Conservative guests and goes for the kill with Liberal quests. Both darling Katie and stupid Mat have spread the lie that Democrats were in bed with Jack Abramoff, and now this shit with Matthews. Like the talk shows, I don’t really watch nightly news show either. I prefer instead to surf the various sites on the web. I can usually get a more informed view of the news that way. However, NBC News has always struck me as a good organization. It’s just a shame to see them sink to this level.
I’ve never considered Matthews a liberal even though he’s worked a good chunk of his life for Democratic politicians, including President Jimmy Carter and the late Thomas P. "Tip" O’Neill. Jr., former Speaker of the House. But I have to wonder if Tip O’Neill is turning over in his grave right now.
The Internet as we know it today may soon be on its last legs. AOL and Yahoo are putting together plans to start charging companies to send emails to their customers’ accounts. According to the two companies this will encourage the emailers to be more discriminating and discourage spam. I guess I don’t understand this. If you don’t use the service unpaid emails could end up in your spam folder, at which time you can mark as not being spam so that future emails are not sent to the spam folder. How is that any different than the current system? This seems like nothing more than a blatant attempt by AOL and Yahoo to make big bucks. Granted, that’s not such a bad thing — I am a capitalist after all. It’s just that the reasoning behind this is so bogus. This will not stop spam. It’s just a way for AOL and Yahoo to create another revenue stream.

So, my girlfriend purchases a couple of items for me from Undergear (see here and here). I wear them, of course, but they are VERY uncomfortable. They pack everything into a tight spot and even for a modestly equipped man such as myself they are just way too uncomfortable. The things we do for love!
By the way, having never heard of Undergear before this and having never seen one of their catalogs I find myself wondering this: is it a pre-requisite that you be hung in order to model Undergear’s form-fitting undies? Come on, people! Oh, well, my girlfriend was quite pleased with how I filled them out. Lowered expectations, I guess.
I really think you have to consider the symbolism of Coretta Scott King lying state in the Georgia State Capitol. It wasn’t that long ago when Mrs. King would have been required to enter separately from whites and use separate facilities. It’s also shows how Georgia politics have changed since the death of her husband. It’s a well-deserved honor.
Too funny.
Benjamin Franklin was right, "They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety."
Then Pentagon can barely manage to run a war. Are they really the people who need to be giving out marriage advice? Moreover, how much taxpayer money was spent in coming up with this monstrosity of acronyms? Do they think soldiers will actually use this?
We can all breathe a little easier now. ABC is putting a 5-second delay on its "live" Super Bowl. God bless America. Truth, justice and the American Way are saved from the off chance that someone’s booby might be shown on national television!
