Because I have never — repeat, never — watched American Idol. I guess I just don’t see what makes the show so watchable. Yet, it regularly draws 25 to 30 million viewers every time it airs, and is even beating the Olympics (although, that’s apparently not a difficult task this time around). I just find the whole concept annoying.
I’ll give dear Peggy this: she makes some valid points about the liability of keeping VP Cheney around. However, with only two years left in his term I seriously doubt President Bush will give Cheney the boot. It goes completely against character for the president. Hell, if he’ll keep Donald Rumsfeld around, why put Cheney out to pasture? Moreover, the next GOP candidate for president will have to, I think, distance him- or herself from the Bush II administration to some extent. People are pissed at this president, and while that will soften by 2008, any Democratic candidate worth a damn would make sure to draw attention to that very fact. Of course, this could all be meaningless if president Bush were to name John McCain to replace Cheney.
Shame on Pat Roberts for being such a political coward.
