Wal-Mart Blinks

I think the writing was on the wall for Wal-Mart when it came to the whole emergency contraception brouhaha.  They really were out on a limb with this one.  Their excuses for not stocking the pill just didn’t fly.  However, I am surprised they caved so quickly.  Usually, the company fights in the hopes that people will be frightened away by their horde of lawyers and deep pockets.  Granted, they will still keep the stupid conscientious objection policy that allows a pharmacist to refuse dispensing any prescription he or she feels violates their personal moral code, but one battle at a time.

Missouri Just Keeps On Getting Redder

This is just unreal to me.  There is actually a bill before the Missouri legislator that  will make Christianity the majority religion in the state, offer no protection to minority religions, and would "protect the majority’s right to express their religious beliefs."  Sometimes I just hate the state that I live in; yet, Missouri is a great place to live and I would never leave.  Here’s the really sad part:  even though the US Constitution forbids the establishment of an official religion, even though the Missouri Constitution forbids the same thing I could see something like this passing in the Missouri legislator, could see Governor Blunt signing it even though he knew it violated the Constitution.  If it went before voters, they would approve it.  Of course, I doubt a law such as this could pass judicial review, but that wouldn’t stop the state from taking it all the way to the Supreme Court.  What a waste of taxpayer money, but par for the course since Republicans took control of the state several years ago.

Too Little, Too Late

Every time I see one of those polls about how Americans are unhappy with President Bush or dislike what he’s doing, I ask myself, "Why does it matter?"  It’s too late now!  He’s in office for another 2 years!  Granted, we can hobble him some if we get more Democrats in the House and Senate, but the GOP has done such a good job of rigging the districts that may be more difficult than we think.  I hate to be a pessimist, but this man has not changed — not one bit!  How people can just now realize they may have made the wrong choice is fucking stupid.  Vote, damn you!

God Smites Pat Robertson

Poor Pat Robertson.  God’s chosen evangelist was ousted from the board of the National Religious Broadcasters Association, a group that had honored him in the past with its Christian Broadcaster of the Year award.  Keep the faith, Pat, this was obviously God’s will.

By the way:  Thank you, God!
