The FCC hit CBS with more than $3 million in fines. According to America’s nannies, the FCC received 300,000 complaints on 50 television shows. Now, here’s my question: 25 to 30 million people watch the most popular shows on television from week to week; yet the FCC is concerned with a mere 300,000 out of 30 million! There’s something wrong with this equation. I find myself wondering if $3.6 million will be enough for CBS to finally say enough is enough and take the FCC to court. I understand the FCC has jurisdiction over the public airwaves, but they’re going too far. They’re trying to turn television back into Leave it to Beaver land. Moreover, they’re now threatening to extend their arm into pay cable, as well. Someone needs to stop these idiots, but considering Les Moonves’s past actions I doubt it will be CBS.
Molly Ivins is almost always a lot of fun to read, even when I don’t agree with what she’s saying or the way in which she is saying it. This diatribe is one of the greats. She speaks to a lot of the feeling those of us out int he real world thinking, especially in terms of the gutless behavior of the Washington Dems. If only they would wake up and listen.
The entire Russ Feingold situation is a prime example. People like Joe Lieberman accuse Feingold of playing politics. They say censure is the wrong message to send out enemies. What a load of horseshit! This president’s actions have led to the death of more than 2,000 Americans and tens of thousands of Iraqis; this president actions have led to an enormous debt that will burden us for generations; this president had a complete disregard for the constitution of this country. Lieberman and his ilk were ready and willing to hang their president for lying about getting a blowjob, yet this president continues to get a free pass. No one died because Bill Clinton got a blowjob, Joey! Yet, you saw no problem in censuring your president. Hypocrites!
