Losing Ground on Abortion

When South Dakota passed its women-are-the-property-of-their-husbands-and-fathers abortion law, it seemed like a win-win for the "pro-life" crowd, but what it seems to have done more than anything is energize those who want to keep abortion safe and legal.  Now, South Dakota has the Indians after them!  Something tells me this won’t fly, but I have absolutely no understanding of the how Indian reservations work, so I could be wrong.  What I find interesting is that South Dakota’s gleeful desire to turn back the hands of time may just bite them in the ass when all is said and done.

Trying to Lose

Lately, it seems like Republicans are looking for ways to alienate voters and ensure their losses in 2006 and 2008.  Don’t get me wrong, there are certainly important issues and concerns in the area of immigration, especially illegal immigration, but the ways in which Republicans would like to "fix" this "problem" just seems wrong.  In the end, what they propose will hurt far more people than it helps.
