Of all people to take a fall, I never thought it would be Tom DeLay.  But the writing has been on the wall for some time now.  DeLay’s days were numbered and if he’d stayed in the race he very well could have pushed it to a Democrat.  By resigning, he leaves it open for a Republican to keep the district, which already trends heavily Republican.  So, in a sense, Tommy Boy took one for the party that was quickly abandoning him.
