Is Bush Losing the Base?
When the president can’t even get the base riled up about their favorite thing to hate, gays and gay marriage, things aren’t going too well.

To me, the real sadness of war is what it does to the men and women who are fighting it, and to the civilians around them who often get caught in the crossfire. The Haditha incident is a shining example of this sadness. Some may consider it wrong for me to admit this, but in some ways you can understand why these soldiers lost it. Their lives are in danger on a daily basis from insurgents, from suicide bombers, and from insidious IEDs. Seeing their comrades die every day can change anyone, and not in a positive way. That being said, if what we’re hearing about Haditha is true, then what happened is simply wrong. To murder men, women, and children (children!) with no real proof of guilt is reprehensible; and then to cover it up! It goes against all the honor and tradition we come to know of our service men and women.Â
This is probably a silly question, but I ask it in all seriousness. Does anyone, and I mean anyone, including Conservatives and general fans of the show, really take Bill O’Reilly seriously? He’s always played fast and loose, but with Fox News Channel’s and O’Reilly’s ratings heading down (see here and here) he’s been even worse. So, it’s really no surprise that he would say this.
