Damn the Emmys
Once again, the Emmys wuss out when they have the opportunity to shine a light on good programming other than what you see on HBO or the four major networks. I guess it’s no surprise Battlestar Galactica was snubbed. The Emmys have rarely honored great science fiction, or any genre television, since The Twilight Zone. Yeah, they’ve given some awards to Taken and The X-Files, but those a rare cases few and far between. So, it’s no surprise BG was snubbed. It’s still a shame one of television’s best dramas currently on television, a Peabody Award winner, can’t get a little Emmy love. Not to mention great actors like Mary McDonnell and Edward James Olmos.
And it wasn’t just BG that got the snub. There’s Gilmore Girls, a consistently good show for five years and its star, Lauren Graham, and to a lesser extent, Alexis Bledel. What about Kristen Bell of Veronica Mars? I’m not a huge fan of the show myself, but Bell is a fantastic actress in the role. Of course, these are WB and UPN shows, so they don’t count, right? While I’m not surprised to see Desperate Housewives get the snub, the deserved it, but I still think Marcia Cross and Eva Longoria gave Emmy-worthy performances this season. I’m not sure I’ll even watch the Emmy’s this year. This just too out of touch.
