Margaret Cho Is Hilarious

So, I’m flipping through the several hundred channels I have and trying to find something good to watch and I came across Margaret Cho in I’m the One That I Want on Logo (you know, the gay cable channel — shhh!), and she’s fucking hilarious.  I remember watching her sitcom All-American Girl, which I thought was very funny until ABC canceled it.  She spends a portion of her routine talking about her experience, and it’s obvious she has some bitter memories there, but she turns it into a very funny routine.

Here’s something that will make me sound like such a hayseed:  I always thought Margaret Cho was a lesbian.  I don’t know why.  I’ve never read anything that said she was.  Weird.

Well, gay or not, she’s damned funny.  It would be nice if some cable network would give her a sitcom she could make her own way.  It may not be a resounding success, but it would be funny.

Don’t Like It, Don’t Watch It

I have to say I agree with the judge who ordered companies like CleanFlicks to stop copying movies, deleting objectionable scenes, and then burning them onto new DVDs.  I’ve always thought this was the wrong way to deal with the issue.  Just like the issue with objectionable content on television, I’m of the opinion that if you don’t like it, don’t watch it.  If you’re so damn upset by a brief nude scene — very brief — in Titanic, then don’t watch the film.  If you don’t like it when TV shows tackle important issues like teen sex, homosexuality, AIDS, drug abuse, or whatever, then turn off the TV.  This is a free country, you’re allowed to do that.  Near the end of this article, a woman involved in one of these businesses said she was tired of fighting Hollywood and will now make money with her own family-friendly films.  That’s the way to do this.  If movie-goers are so damn tired of movies featuring nudity, sexuality, drug use, and gay love then these people will make money on their G and PG films.  Walden Media has certainly made bucket-loads of money with the likes of The Chronicles of Narnia (a very violent film in my opinion, but it had a Christian themes, so that’s OK) and the upcoming Charlotte’s Web.

America Loves Its Pirates

Looks like America still loves the pirate Jerry Bruckheimer thought was too gay (you got to love liberal Hollywood’s absolute fright of being seen as too gay).  Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest not only blew away Spider-Man’s one-day record, but also took the webslinger’s record for the bigest three-day weekend gross with more than $132 million!  I was never a big fan of the first Pirates movie, epecially when you consider it’s based on one of Disneyland’s oldest rides, but Depp brought a lot of fun to the character and made the film much more watchable.  Be that as is may, I’ll still wait for the DVD to see Dead Man’s Chest.
