Where’s the Outcry
There seems to a lot of discussion on various sites about why there hasn’t been an outcry in Hollywood about Mel Gibson’s obviously anti-Jew comments during an arrest over the weekend. I wonder why anyone would be surprised. Yes, from my limited understanding of Hollywood, there are a lot of Jewish people in the business, but above all Hollywood is about money. To a certain extent any actor can say and do what they like as long as they still draw people into the theatres. If Mel can still bring in Braveheart or The Passion of the Christ dollars then industry people, Jewish or no, will gladly work with him. They may not like it, but money is money. The thing is, I think Mel may have finally gone too far; you really never know. If he goes on Oprah or gives a tearful Barbara Walters interview, and fans buy into it, then studios will accept him with open arms. It’s a sad fact, but fact it is.
