Interesting

A group of Hollywood entertainers, and those in the business, have taken out an ad in the LA Times denouncing terrorism.  The ad reads:

We the undersigned are pained and devastated by the civilian
casualties in Israel and Lebanon caused by terrorist actions initiated
by terrorist organisations such as Hezbollah and Hamas.
If we do not succeed in stopping terrorism around the world, chaos will rule and innocent people will continue to die.  We need to support democratic societies and stop terrorism at all costs.

The ad was signed by 80 people in the entertainment industry.  Among them were:  Nicole Kidman, Michael Douglas, Dennis Hopper, Sylvester Stallone, Bruce Willis,
Danny De Vito, Don Johnson, James Woods, Kelly Preston, Patricia Heaton, and William Hurt; directors Ridley Scott, Tony Scott, Michael Mann, Richard Donner, and Sam Raimi, as well as Sumner Redstone and Haim Saban.  I wish I could find the actual ad, but the LA Times website doesn’t seem to have it anywhere.

This list alone a very bi-partisan group.  Dennis Hopper, Bruce Willis, Don Johnson, James Woods, and Patricia Heaton are known Republicans, or at the very least supporters of President Bush.  Michael Douglas and Kelly Preston (along with their famous spouses) have been vocal supporters of Democrats and especially the Clintons.  Sumner Redstone is a recent convert to the GOP (because it’s good for businesss).  Saban has also been a major supporter of the Democratic Party, donating large sums of money, but has recently supported some Republican nominees.

I think what draws most of these people are their ties to terrorist acts.  Kidman is from Australia, which has had its own issues with terrorism considering their location.  Michael Douglas and Haim Saban have ties to Israel through their nationality.  It hits home for them.

I see very little in the ad that sounds terrible.  Granted, it sounds like an ad written by the White House, but do they say anything we don’t agree with?  It’s rare for celebrities to take a stand like this, and they’re usually condemned for doing so.  How long will it be before each of them is asked to hit the Conservative radio and news stations?.

Closure At Last…Maybe

The killer of JonBenet Ramsey has been caught, at least that’s what we’re being told.  Now, maybe this family can finally get past the tragedy and on with their lives.  But then, how do get past something like this? Especially when yo’ve been hounded by the media, not to mention tried and convicted before an arrest was even made!

Liberty vs. Security, Continued

I’m sure the White House will go into over-drive claiming activist judges, or the war on terror, or national security, whatever, but they had to know — in their heart of hearts they had to know! — no judge in their right mind who is actually capable of understanding our constitution would allow warrantless wiretapping.  The very idea is anathema to what our Founding Fathers envisioned when they sat down and fought over the writing of the constitution.   Say what you want about "Islamic fascists," but we won’t win the "war" if allow ourselves to embrace our own form of fascism.  Now, we’[ll jsut see if the government actually complies.  Something tells me they will fight this all the way to the Supreme Court where they might, might, have a chance of getting their way.
