Here’s something I don’t understand:  why is that President Bush, Congressional Republicans, and Republicans in general do not understand how important the Geneva Conventions are, even in this so-called “war” on terror.  If we as a nation repudiate the Geneva Convention then what protections can we expect other countries to provide our service men and women?  Yes, I know that terrorists aren’t likely to abide by the Conventions, but just because they don’t does that mean we should follow their lead?  Do we really what to be on par with the likes of bin Laden and his al Qaeda bastards?  The Conventions serve a purpose in protecting the men and women in our military.  Tossing them aside just because we want to take the easy way out in dealing with detainees doesn’t make it right, and it doesn’t make us safer – no matter what the president says.
