Everything Old is New Again

Looks like George W. Bush has learned some sort of lesson since the election.  He’s calling on friends and colleagues of his father, Bush 41, to step in and help fix the Iraq mess before even more of the Republican Party goes up in flames.  Along with Robert gates, Rumsfeld’s replacement as SecDef, Bush 43 is turning to James A. Baker III, a capable Secretary of State during the Bush 41 term, and someone the current President Bush has bluntly ignored until this past Tuesday.  Baker is not perfect by any mean; who can forget that he orchestrated Bush 43’s ascension following the Florida fiasco in 2000?  However, he’s always seems like a fair man, as fair as politicians can be, and he doesn’t seem to put family or political loyalties ahead of what is the right direction.  Which is why it will be interesting to see what the bipartisan Iraq Study Group puts forward.  If there’s a common sense middle way then let’s have it.
