Are Viewers Tired of 24?

That title might be a little inflammatory because this liberal isn’t tired of watching the Republican fantasy known as 24.  However, it’s interesting to note that one of the most hyped and talked about series FOX has outside of American Idol and House could not beat 60 Minutes and Desperate Housewives.  Granted, 60 Minutes directly followed football, but 24 couldn’t even beat the combo of 60 Minutes/Cold Case; and even though Housewives was down by a good chunk  they still handily beat 24.

I though the first two hours of the 24 premiere were good, but not up to the par of previous seasons, especially season 5 which I think was the best season to date.  Apparently, something huge (possibly a nuke) happens tonight that will set the tone for the rest of the season.  I know I’ll be watching.

UPDATE:  I’m still shaking my head about the ratings for 24.  Last night the series’ only real competition was the Golden Globes on NBC, and the globes beat them handily; moreover, 24 was seen by fewer viewers Monday than Sunday.  Of course, these are not bad numbers, but I am just suprised a show that has had so much buzz in the past year isn’t drawing House-like ratings.  Regardless, last night’s episodes were quite good and paid off with an ending we may have been expecting, but was still shocking as hell.
