Who Cares What Imus Says

I’m sure I would be told it’s because I’m not an African American or some other minority, but I find myself wondering why Imus is being singled for his recent comments about the Rutgers women’s basketball team.  Is it any different than what he says on a daily basis about other women, immigrants, or homosexuals?  Where was the outcry then?  I certainly don’t think he should get away with saying shit like this Scott free, but the man has been suspended and he’s apologized; an apology that sounds a hell of a lot more sincere than some of the recent crap we’ve heard from the likes of Ann Coulter or Isaiah Washington.  Why is everyone still harping on this?  Why does the Rutgers women’s basketball team care what the hell Imus thinks.  They have nothing to prove; they’re a kick-ass team.  Moreover, why is anything he’s said so much worse than what African American call themselves these days?  I cannot accept the lame excuse that racial stereotypes are OK when you happen to have the same skin color as the stereotype being referred to?  While I think Imus sucks, I also think this is beginning to go too far.  Move on, people!  There are greater atrocities going on in the world.
