Maybe it’s because I have a penis, but this idea that men are running the world into ruin and women would do a better job is just a false argument.  What about women would make them better at leading countries?  Because they have a vagina?  Because they bring life into the world?  Again, a false argument.  There are any number of women running countries, leading political parties, running for office, running businesses, etc., and they’ve proven to be susceptible to the same foibles as men.  This idea that our world would be a better place if more women ran it just silly.

Salma Hayek says, in the context of speaking out for the very worthy cause of ending domestic violence, “Men have been running the world and - I’m sorry - but they have not taken us to a good place. We are in crisis. What would happen if women were in power? What decisions would we make? If women are going to have the self-respect they need to go out and make a change in society, it has to start with how they’re treated in their homes.”  At first glance I certainly don’t disagree with her.  As someone who’s seen first hand how terrifying domestic violence can be I would genuinely like to see women be stronger, become empowered, but she’s talking about two difference ideas here.  End domestic violence?  Of course.  Empowering women?  Long overdue.  Women in control making the world a better place?  An argument that has no basis in fact.
