So Much For a Safe Baghdad

If there is one politician out there who deserves to be held accountable for not knowing what the hell he/she is talking about it’s John McCain.  Each and ever day that passes since he made his “safe” trek through an Iraqi marketplace proves how wrong McCain is — on this and many other subjects.

What Does Supporting the Troops Really Mean?

If you listen to President Bush, any of his cronies, or candidates like John McCain if you don’t blindly support our “mission” in Iraq then you are not only unpatriotic, but you don’t support American troops.  I, of course, call bullshit on that ludicrous piece of sophistry.  While reading Time’s recent article “America’s Broken-Down Army” I found myself asking some different questions.  Do you really support our troops if you blindy support an administration that has poorly planned and executed an unnecessary war?  Do you support our troops if you don’t hold our government accountable for sending under-trained and poorly equipped soldiers into a violent insurgency?  Do you support the troops when you allow our government to continually give tax cuts to the richest in our country while at the same time cutting programs that could assist soldiers, especially wounded soldiers, when they come home?  If you can answer yes to any of those questions then, I’m sorry, you don’t support the troops.  Unfortunately, far too many Americans see supporting the troops as little more than slapping a magnetic yellow sticker on the side of their cars.
