Screwing Over the Innocent
There are many reason why I haven’t been a supporter of the death penalty for nearly 15 years, and the case of Troy Anthony Davis is a prime example. Davis was convicted of killing a police officer in 1989, but here’s the rub: seven of nine main witnesses who helped put Davis in jail have now recanted their testimony and thanks to a stupid law passed by Newt Gingrich and shamefully signed by President Bill Clinton, Davis has run out of appeal options. I don’t care what your fellings are about criminals abusing our justice system or your support for the death penalty we should all support a fair trial for each citizen. Obviously something went wrong with this man’s trial and he deserves another day in court. The fact that all of his appeals have failed doesn’t say much about our justice system.
