If we needed another reason to work our asses off to get Bush, Cheney, and all their right-wing, moronic, neo-con friends out of office it’s Iran.  These fools are actually considering military action as a choice for dealing with Iran.  Now, unlike Iraq I doubt seriously President Bush will find any support of military action in Iran, but one should never underestimate the ability of this administration to gather support for its initiatives.  I’ve often been abused for saying the American people can be very gullible when it comes to this man, but I still believe that.  Fortunately for us all, the American people are starting to wake up, not to mention Congress has finally found the strength to stand against the president when it’s necessary. 

Now, I don’t delude myself into thinking that Iran isn’t of concern.  I’m trouble by their nuclear program and we certainly don’t need the terrorist groups supported by Iran getting access to nuclear material; however, Iran cannot be fixed militarily.  First of all, the country is what, 3 to 4 times larger than Iraq?  Unlike Saddam Hussein’s military, Iran has maintained a strong, well-equipped military.  Then, there’s the mountainous terrain.  To defeat a country like Iran it would take not only a large multi-national force, but the hope that any attack would not inflame other Muslims nations; and thinking that just because Iranian’s are mostly Shia is no guarantee that Sunni Muslims will not react negatively.  We could quickly find ourselves becoming Russia to Iran’s’ Afghanistan in the 80s.

Tell me, what’s so “dangerous” about giving troops a longer rest period between deployments?  I’m certainly no military expert, but wouldn’t allowing troops more time to rest, relax, and restore themselves between deployments actually make them safer in the long run?  Maybe someone needs to explain that to Sec. of Defense Gates.
