Super Tuesday So Far
Well, I braved a tornado warning and blaring sirens, but I cast my vote for Barrack Obama. I’m little sad to see Hillary Clinton leading by such a large margin, but I’m n to really surprised. On the Republican side, Huckabee is leading John McCain by 5 points and he’s been taking several Southern states elsewhere tonight. This brings up an interesting point: can John McCain be viable in the South? Granted, if they have no one else to vote for, Southern Republican will most likely vote for McCain, but if turnout is low on the Republican side it could make the eventual Democrat nominee, even Hillary Clinton, more viable in the South.
Right now, I’m watching CNN and they’re bringing up an interesting point. John McCain carried his home state of Arizona, but interestingly enough he did not carry the Conservative vote, Romney handily beat him among those voters. Again, this brings up an crack in McCain front runner status: the core of the Republican Party does not like him. If McCain is going to be viable with these voters he needs to be thinking about a running mate who help carry Souther states and bring in Conservative voters. I’m not sure McCain could stomach Mitt Romney, but Mike Huckabee might be a perfect running mate for him. Evangelicals and Conservatives would be attracted to a McCain/Huckabee ticket, I think. Unless, they actually thinking about it and realize it would just be a ruse to get their vote.
