What the Hell are Supedelegates?

I don’t profess to be all that knowledgeable about the inner political workings of the national parties, but the issue of superdelegates keeps coming up in this election.  With his four wins this weekend in Nebraska, Washington, Louisiana, and the Virgin Islands, Baraka Obama has pulled ahead of Hillary Clinton in “pledged” delegates — 918-885 — but when you add the superdelegates, Hillary Clinton is 60 delegates ahead.

Basically, these superdelegates were created in order to give more power in the nominating process to party insiders.  That seems a bit fucked up to me.  Basically, party insiders are taking the power from the people casting their vote and giving it to a small group of people who are more concerned about internal politics than what’s best for the country.  I’m not saying that Hillary Clinton is bad for the country; in fact, if chosen as the Democrat’s nominee I think she would be a strong president.  However, I still think it’s wrong that a small group of people basically get to nullify the votes of Americans.  That’s just seems wrong to me.
