We Are The Ones

Will.i.am has released another viral song video in support of Barak Obama, and I like it more than the previous “Yes We Can” video.

Oh, Those Headlines

Sometimes ou just haveto chuckle at the stuupidity of new headlines.  Take this one for example, “Obama Backs Law Helping McCain.”  Of course, this article about a proposal being put forth by Missouri Senator Claire McCaskill, which Senator Obama says he will support, that will allow the children of military personel born outside the United States to hold the nation’s highest office.

According to Article 2, Section 1 of the U.S. Constitution, only a “natural-born citizen” is eligible to run for the Office of President.  The interpretation here is that even though a child born outside the United States is still a citizen, he or she is not natural-born citizen; thereby, making these individuals ineligible to be president. Since John McCain was born in the Panama Canal Zone, some would say he is not a natural-born citizen.  However, according to The US Constitution Online, 8 USC 1401(c) specifically states “…a person born outside of the United States and its outlying possessions of parents both of whom are citizens of the United States and one of whom has had a residence in the United States or one of its outlying possessions, prior to the birth of such person” is a natural-born citizen, so I’m not sure what the fuss is about.  No, it’s not in the Constitution, but that’s what the US Code is for.

That being said, I think it’s time to change the constitution to include anyone, regardless of where they were born, who is a legal citizen of this country as eligible to run for president.  We’ve always been a nation of immigrants and it’ sad that we still have something like still hanging out there. I understand why the framers of the Constitution wanted to prevent people not born in their very new county from attaining the Office of President, but it just doesn’t apply today.

Protest Too Much, Maybe?

The pro-business Republicans are all about the global markets, free enterprise, and capitalism; yet, when a foreign company uses those very same ideals fairly get a contract over an American company suddenly they want to cry foul.  Well, I should say, only those Republicans who won’t see a benefit from this contract in their home states are complaining.  You can’t have it both way, children.

It’s so like Republicans to act this way.  On the one hand their preaching the positive effects of globalization, the next they’re whining like little children because American doesn’t come out on top.
