It’s About Time

Abstinence-only programs are a complete sham and do very little to reduce teen pregnancy, so it’s nice to see more and more states rejecting money they desperately need to dump these programs.  If we have sex education in schools it should be comprehensive, not just about telling kids to wait until they’re married.  We were all that age once, did it ever work?

$176 Million a Year Down The Drain

Our government spends $176 million annually to fund “abstinence-until-marriage” programs, and do know what a recent study discovered?  It’s really no surprise for anyone who can remember their teen years.  Those who attended these abstinence program were just as likely to have sex as those who did not, had the same number of sexual partners, and started having sex around the same age, 14.9 years of age (boy was I a late bloomer!).  Wouldn’t it be better to spend that money on comprehensive sex education that includes a component concerning abstinence?  Sounds good to me, but who the hell am I?
